Alcohol-free scouting joins Movendi Sverige

27.10.2026 - In recent years, Sweden’s temperance movement has taken major steps to prepare for the future. IOGT-NTO, Junis and UNF came together in 2024 to form Movendi Sverige. Now, the Swedish Temperance Guide and Scout Association (NSF) is joining them.
Sweden’s temperance movement is bringing its organisations together to pool resources, strengthen their sense of community and create better opportunities for participation, organising and advocacy. The guiding principle is that the dual identity of being both a scout and a Movendi member will strengthen the movement as a whole.
“We are very pleased to become an integral part of Movendi Sverige. We have been part of this temperance movement for almost 100 years. Throughout that time, we have connected Swedish scouting with the temperance movement, building a strong bridge between two major movements, both nationally and internationally. We are now becoming an active part of the new temperance movement within Movendi and can contribute to its development in several ways, including by developing alcohol-free scouting,” says Anders Ödman, President of NSF.
A cooperation agreement between Movendi and Scouterna, Sweden’s national scouting organisation, has been signed. It enables scouting to operate as part of Movendi’s activities for children and young people. Movendi also commits to maintaining and developing alcohol-free scouting, building on the work previously carried out within NSF.
“Movendi Sverige is strongest when we can come together in more ways and in more settings. We now welcome alcohol-free scouts home again. Through the Scout Method, tried and tested for more than a century, we can meet children and young people where they are and help them develop a lifelong commitment to others and to society. That is the most important contribution we can make as a movement. Together, we are now better placed to reach more people and help them become individuals who influence their communities, schools, workplaces and decision-makers,” says Kristina Sperkova, President of Movendi.
During 2025, NSF conducted an in-depth review of its possible future direction, working closely with its members. Following this process, NSF decided at its regular assembly in 2025 to become part of Movendi. That decision was confirmed at a second assembly on Saturday, 24 October 2026.
